Commencement 2008
College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Celebrate the 59th CommencementWHEN: 1:00 pm Friday, May 30, 2008. (Those participating in the ceremony should be present by 12:30 pm). WHERE: Central Quadrangle of the University on upper campus. Your guests should go directly to the Commencement site in the central quad on upper campus; they should not accompany you to the processional assembly area. You should arrange to meet your guests after the Commencement exercises at the reception area. The location of the reception will be announced at the ceremony. Student ushers will direct seating. GUESTS: We encourage you to invite family and friends to attend as your guests. Invite as many guests as you wish. No admission tickets are needed. Children who are accustomed to sitting quietly in large groups are welcome at Commencement. Please tell your guests to allow a half-hour to walk from the parking on lower campus to the Central Quad on upper campus. WHERE TO ASSEMBLE: Graduates should assemble for the procession no later than 12:30 pm. Follow signs to the assembly area when you arrive on campus. More information available at a later date.
LINE UP (Master Candidates): Line up (Location to be determined) in two columns behind the Masters' banner and sign. Faculty marshals will assist in this line up. Each candidate will be hooded. Candidates should carry their hood over their right arm until they are called to the platform. Be sure the button on the hood is unbuttoned. Complete the name card distributed to you in the processional line. The card will be used by a reader to read your name when you walk across the platform. LINE UP (Undergraduates): There will be department direction signs in the designated line up area. Line up in two columns behind the department banner and sign of your major. Faculty marshals will assist in this line up. Complete the name card that will be distributed to you in the processional line. The card will be used by a reader to read your name when you cross the platform. PROGRAM BOOK: Your name will be printed in the University Commencement Program that will be on your seat at Commencement. Additional copies will also be available for purchase. RECEPTION: Immediately following the ceremony, you and your family and guests are cordially invited to attend the College's Commencement Reception at the Terrace Level of the University Student Union building. No tickets will be needed.
PHOTOGRAPHY: A commercial photographer will be taking two pictures of each graduate on Commencement day, one while the graduate crosses the platform, and the other after the graduate leaves the platform. The photographer will contact each graduate. Also, the Commencement ceremony will be broadcast live over the web. Check your web connection at before the ceremony begins at: http://www.csulb.edu/projects/commencement/webcast/index3.html. A DVD of the ceremony will be available for purchase at the bookstore at a later date. INVITATION FROM THE COLLEGE: All Candidates for graduation in the CNSM will receive a letter of invitation from the Dean and a copy of the brochure: Guide To Commencement. GRADUATION INFORMATION FAIR: University Student Ballroom, Long Beach Ballroom (Multi-Purpose Rooms) Tuesday, March 25, 2008, 2:00 - 7:00 pm, Wednesday, March 26, 2008 anytime between 2:00 - 7:00 pm, and Thursday, March 27, 2008, 12:00 - 7:00 pm. Sponsored by the 49er Shops University Bookstore, the fair presents the opportunity to: have your yearbook senior portrait taken, rent your cap and gown for later pick-up, and purchase class rings, diploma plaques, graduation announcements, educationally discounted computer hardware and software, and resume services.
