CSULB Scholarly Writing Institute: The Grant Writing Institute (GWI) is an intensive, highly interactive program designed to help faculty successfully apply for internal and external funding opportunities. The Institute allows scholars to interact with one another, enabling them to offer constructive critiques of research proposals and provide faculty with at least three viable leads for external funding sources and/or a draft outline of an external funding proposal.
Eksigent 2-dimensional (2D) nano-liquid chromatography (LC) system with an associated multivariable wavelength UV detector and matrix assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) plate spotter. This system will add considerably to the teaching and research applications and functionality of the MALDI TOF/TOF double focusing mass spectrometer by allowing alternative form of separation beyond that currently available by 2D-gel electrophoresis. Nano flows permit the analysis of very small sample sizes with excellent separation resolution and precision. The ability to directly spot and archive the chromatographic separations onto a MALDI target provides the operator an opportunity to revisit the sample to complete exhaustive MS and MS/MS analyses off line. This enables more in-depth interrogation of samples, which can be of particular advantage in applications such as peptide separations, sequencing, post-translational modifications or metabolite identification.
CSULB faculty and students are invited to attend a workshop on proteomics [pdf] and MALDI-TOF-TOF analysis organized by the Center for Education in Proteomics Analysis being held at CSULB July 12-13, 2012. The registration cost is $50 for the two day workshop, which covers our cost for consumables and lunch for attendees. Deadline for Registration is July 2. Please email the completed registration form [pdf] to Dr Kent Lee (YuanYu.Lee@csulb.edu).
