Faculty Nominations - Spring 2008CNSM Faculty: It is time once again to solicit nominations for the Academic Senate and University Level and College Level Committees and Councils that are elected by secret ballot of the tenured and tenure-track faculty of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Your participation makes our University governance work. Based on your interest and expertise, please consider nominating yourself for one of these committees or councils, or suggest the nomination of a colleague. The College Council will accept nominations for the ballot until 5:00 pm on Friday, March 21. Nominations may be made from the floor at the Nominating Meeting of the College Council on Thursday March 20 at 1:00 pm in FO5-104, or they may be sent directly to your Council Represenative, or to Margaret Karteron in the College Office. The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics will be conducting an election of the Tenured and Tenure Track Faculty during the week of March 24 to March 28 for the following openings:
Academic SenatePositions Open: 3 Tenured/Tenure-Track Representatives, 1 Lecturer Representative, 1 Alternate. The Academic Senate is the "duly elected representative body of the faculty to exercise those powers that rest with the faculty." Term: Three years. Meets alternate Thursdays 2:00-4:00 pm.
Curriculum and Educational Policies CouncilPosition Open: 1 Tenured/Tenure-Track Representative, 1 Alternate. The Curriculum and Educational Policies Council shall serve as the primary advisory body to the Academic Senate and University administration on matters pertaining to the educational policies of the University. No changes in existing educational policies shall be approved without consideration by this Council. Term: Three years. Meets 2nd & 4th Wednesdays from 2:00-4:00 pm.
Faculty Personnel Policies CouncilPosition Open: 1 Tenured Full Professor Representative, 1 Alternate The Faculty Personnel Policies Council shall serve as the primary faculty consultative body to the Academic Senate and the University administration on matters of personnel policy development and administration of policies governing personnel practices. Term: Three years. Meets 1st & 3rd Wednesdays from 2:00-3:30 pm.
University Resources CouncilPosition Open: 1 Tenured/Tenure Track Representative (Associate or higher), 1 Alternate The University Resources Council shall serve as the primary faculty advisory body to the Academic Senate and University Division heads on matters associated with the University budget. Term: Three years. Meets 1st & 3rd Tuesdays from 1:00-3:00 pm.
Program Assessment and Review Council (PARC)Position Open: 1 Tenured or Tenure-Track Representative, 1 Alternate The Program Assessment and Review Council shall serve as the primary advisory body to the Academic Senate and University administration on matters relating to the assessment and periodic review of graduate and undergraduate academic programs and the planning associated with those programs, including the University's Strategic Planning Process. Term: Three years. Meets 1st & 3rd Wednesdays from 2:00-3:00 pm.
Scholarly and Creative Activities Committee (SCAC)Position Open: 1 Tenured Representative (Associate or higher), 1 Alternate The Scholarly and Creative Activity Committee (SCAC) shall serve as the primary advisory body to the Academic Senate, the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, and the Office of Research in furthering an atmosphere conducive to scholarship, research, and creative activity. Term: Two years. Meets Fridays at 9:00 am for a limited time of the year.
Those currently serving as an augmented member may run for a consective term. CNSM Professional Leave CommitteePositions Open: 6 Tenured Representatives, 1 from each Department. This committee shall function in accordance with University and College Professional Leave policies. The primary responsibility of this committee is to evaluate applications for sabbatical leave, and make recommendations to the Dean. Term: One year.
CNSM Retention, Tenure, and Promotion (RTP) CommitteePositions Open: 3 Tenured Representatives (Full Professor), 1 each from Chemistry & Biochemistry, Mathematics & Statistics, and Science Education. The College RTP Committee reviews the materials submitted by the candidate and, considering the Department recommendations and applying the standards of the College RTP Document to the candidate's file, forwards its own independent recommendation via the College Dean to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Term: Two years.
