Position: Associate Dean for Research and External Support

Effective Date: On or about August 1, 2008

Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate in one of the natural sciences, mathematics, or math/science education or closely related field that would qualify applicant for retreat rights as a full professor with tenure to a department in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Evidence of very strong publications, research, institutional and individual grant acquisitions, and excellence in teaching. Evidence of ability to work collaboratively with a diverse faculty and university staff. Ability to communicate and work effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications: Evidence of strong involvement in public/private partnerships and research grant collaborations across Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. Significant administrative and academic governance experience. Evidence of experience with assessment and grant evaluation as well as oversight of webpage and database development.

Duties: Provide leadership and vision in seeking external support for mission-related research initiatives in the College. Promote research/scholarly activities and help faculty/staff in the grant proposal process. Work with College Director of Development for identification of private funding sources. Help develop and manage externally-funded contracts and grants for the College. Oversee the College contract and grant approval process working with the Office of University Research and the CSULB Foundation. Facilitate faculty collaboration and promote interdisciplinary research and research centers. Promote and seek external support for student research. Help promote and increase the visibility of the College on the campus and in the community. Help develop and oversee websites for support of grant writing and research/scholarly activities. May teach course(s) in assigned academic department. Other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Salary Range: The individual selected will serve 0.75 time base as a 12-month Associate Dean at the Administrator III level and 0.25 time base faculty as a tenured academic year full professor. Salary is commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the individual selected.

Official doctoral transcript will be required of finalists.
