Lab Preparation Assistant ($10.00-12.50/hour depending on skills)
We need a student 8-10 hours per week with an interest and/or background in science to: assist faculty in lab preparation and tear downs; clean whiteboards, tables, and laboratory equipment; restock materials and equipment; and organize classroom supplies. Administrative Aide [$8.00-10.00/hour depending on skills]
We need a student 10-15 hours per week to assist our Department Coordinator and perform a wide variety of clerical tasks. Duties include: receiving, screening, and directing phone calls and guests; responding to requests for materials or information from faculty, staff, and students in-person and through email; organizing and filing office paperwork; operating various office equipment including a computer, photocopier, and fax machine; running errands as needed; and typing. Informal Science Leader/Teacher -Informal Teaching [$10.00-12.50/hour depending on skills]
Get some hands-on time designing science lessons and then actually get to teach them to real kids. Join the Mobile Science Van Monday through Thursday [8:00am-2:00pm] to visit middle and elementary schools to offer hands-on science to Long Beach kids. Some of your hours will count toward SERVE or mandatory observation hours. You must commit to a schedule planned out at the beginning of the semester. Research Assistant [$12.50-14.50/hour depending on skills]
Faculty need a student 5-10 hours per week to collect and analyze data for research projects that look at the teaching of science in early childhood classrooms. Conduct library searches, photocopy, and retrieve articles from the library to create databases of selected materials for faculty use. This is an excellent opportunity for a student who is interested in scientific literacy and has teaching in mind as a possible future career choice.
