Welcome!

ASTE Conference attendees

Thanks for reading the latest CSULB Science Education Newsletter. In spite of the financial uncertainties, faculty & staff furloughs, and questions about program admission, one thing has remained certain: The Department of Science Education continues to be an incredible place. 2009-2010 was a difficult year for everyone but our faculty kept their eye on the prize and continued to work to grow our programs, help our students be successful and work with area teachers to support and improve preK-16 science instruction. They were also busy writing, getting grants and giving presentations. It makes me tired just reading the list!

Laura and Tim meet the Mythbusters

As you'll read in the following pages, we expanded our reach to India when three of our faculty members traveled to Lucknow to work with university science faculty. Summer saw youngsters and their teachers learning science with us. The various summer programs we offered provided professional development from more than 200 preK-6 teachers and science enrichment opportunities for more than 250 K-9 students.

We are really excited about the construction going on behind PH2 (our current home). We'll be moving into the new Hall of Science in late spring. The building will be completed in February and we’ll officially move into the building at the end of spring semester. We hope you’ll come visit us in our new home! There are naming opportunities available if you want to see your name on our Science Education Library or one of our classrooms.

Our students and alumni continue to do amazing things. We love hearing from you, so please stay in touch and let us know what great things you are doing or what we can do to help you.
