The Science Education Department lost a good friend this spring. Steve Kemp, a lecturer with us for 9 years, died suddenly in late March. In addition to teaching for us, Steve taught elementary school in San Pedro. Steve was a passionate teacher. He loved learning, he loved to joke and he wished to inspire all those who were lucky enough to be in his classes. His little students (the elementary kids) quickly picked up his passion for reading. His older students (the CSULB multiple subject credential candidates) learned how to make science and learning interesting for all. Those of us lucky enough to know Steve smile when we think of him because that's the way he always was - smiling. Nothing seemed to get him down. His positive attitude, cheery disposition, quick and intelligent wit drew people to him.
Steve is survived by his wife Mary and daughters. Donations in Steve's memory can be made to FirstBooks or other science education focused progrmas. Science Education has lost a good friend. We miss you Steve.
