CSU-LSAMP is sponsored both by the National Science Foundation (HRD-07351009) and the California State University, providing a statewide program for the enhancement of math and science skills for students have faced or face social, educational or economic barriers, majoring in science, technology, mathematics and engineering (STEM). The goal of LSAMP is to support students as they successfully complete their academic degree program and enhancing their futures in the STEM disciplines. This program includes a summer workshop designed to prepare students for enrollment in calculus during the upcoming academic year, LSAMP Scholar Program and Research Fellow Program designed to support student involvement in activities that enhance graduate school readiness, and Community College Transfer Student Merit Award to facilitate smooth transition from a community college to CSULB.

Community College Transfer Student Merit Award is to facilitate smooth transition from community college and awards $1000 during the first year at CSULB.
Award Eligibilities

Transferred from a community college and enrolled at CSULB in Fall 2009
-
Declared science, math, engineering, or computer science major
-
US citizen or permanent resident
-
An individual who has faced or faces social, educational, or economic barriers to careers in STEM
Expectations
-
Meet with an undergraduate advisor of appropriate discipline on a regular basis
-
Explore research opportunities with CSULB faculty
-
Attend the College of Natural Sciences & Mathematics Student Research Symposium
-
Attend professional conference in appropriate discipline
-
Earn 2.5 GPA or higher in the Fall 2009 and higher than Fall GPA in Spring 2010

If selected, will be eligible for other LSAMP benefits, such as textbook reimbursement

Summer Calculus Workshop

Annual LSAMP Summer Calculus Workshop provides students with intensive preparation for Calculus I and II courses. This free workshop is taught by CSULB math faculty and open to students in the STEM disciplines who meet the eligibility requirements. Application for the 2010 Summer Calculus Workshop coming soon!

LSAMP Research Fellows Program - 2010 applications coming soon!
Students receive financial support to carry out undergraduate research with a CSULB faculty member and participate in academic and professional development activities in order to prepare for a graduate program in the STEM disciplines.
- Conduct research with a CSULB faculty member during the academic year
- Attend monthly LSAMP Research Fellows meetings (Date and time TBA)
- Provide regular reports and updates regarding research participation
- Up to $2900 stipend for Academic Year participation*
- Faculty Mentor receives stipend for research lab supplies*
*Contingent upon funding
Program Eligibility
Students must meet the following criteria:
- Enrolled at CSULB as an undergraduate student (Post-baccalaureate/second bachelor students are not eligible.)
- Declared science, math, engineering or computer science major
- US citizen or permanent resident
- An individual who faces/has faced social, cultural, educational, or economic barriers to careers in STEM**

- Demonstrated interest in pursuing graduate degree in the STEM disciplines

Return completed application [.pdf], a copy of unofficial CSULB transcripts, a brief description of your research project (one page or less), and one letter of recommendation from a CSULB faculty research mentor to:
