Mandatory Advising for first-semester Freshmen

For Natural Sciences and Mathematics majors ONLY

We hope you are settling into the campus environment at “the Beach.” You need to receive Mandatory Freshman Advising during your first and second semester at CSULB. The University has placed an advising hold on your account. Check MyCSULB for other holds and your enrollment appointment date. You will need to meet with advisors before the hold can be removed to register for spring classes*. Here’s how:

Step 1: Freshman Advising Form/Sign Up for SAS Center/CNSM Advising Workshop

  1. Locate a computer you can print from.
  2. Sign up online for a Mandatory Freshman Advising Workshop. Hurry! Final workshop closing soon!
  3. Print out your Freshman Advising Form from this website and bring it to your Freshman Advising Workshop**.

**Please note: Your workshop LOCATION is listed in your confirmation letter.

Step 2: Attend Your Freshman Advising Workshop**

  1. Jensen SAS Center staff will conduct the advising workshop - the first part of freshman advising.
  2. Receive a signoff stamp from the Jensen SAS Center on your Freshman Advising Form.

**Please note: Late arrivals will be turned away. Be on time!

Step 3: Meet with Your Major Advisor

  1. Visit your undergraduate major advisor during his/her DROP-IN hours [.pdf] to receive the second part of advising for spring semester, and to ask any questions about your major/proposed career.
  2. IMPORTANT! Bring your completed, stamped Freshman Advising Form with you.
  3. Your major advisor approves and signs your Freshman Advising Form.

Step 4: Remove Your Hold/SAS Center

  1. Keep a copy of your proposed spring courses.
  2. Turn in your signed Freshman Advising Form to the Jensen SAS Center (FO5-109) so your Advising Hold can be released. Allow 3 working days to have your Advising Hold released.

We wish you much success with the rest of your semester!

- The College of Natural Sciences & Mathematics

*If you are planning to change your major, we still recommend you talk to your current major advisor, since your hold is with the College of Natural Sciences & Mathematics.
