Freshman ENGAGE Program Everyone Needs Guidance And Great Experiences |
- California State Univeristy Long Beach - CNSM - all rights reserved 2006 - |
The College's Freshman ENGAGE Program is designed to immerse and engage you, our newest freshmen students, in the life of our college. We have learned through experience that the more connected and engaged you are, the more likely you will be to conquer the natural academic, social and emotional challenges you will face during your first year at CSULB. |
We also know that all freshmen are unique and as such need different pathways for engagement and support. Our Freshman ENGAGE Program offers you a menu of opportunities from which we would like for you to make one selection. Please make your selection from the menu options below. Be sure to tell your advior of your choice when you sign up for your first semester of classes for the upcoming semester. If you have questions, please contact the SAS Center at http://www.cnsm.csulb.edu/depts/sas/ or discuss your questions with your assigned freshman advisor. |

Experience Success Program - Semester I and II ESP is a program with a two-fold mission. One goal is for students to learn and adopt organizational, time-management, study and test-taking skills as they engage in their initial freshman course learning experiences. College is different from high school and success demands that students independently manage their time and studies more intensely and at a faster pace than they have often experienced in their past. The second goal is to increase student awareness of science and math-re lated career options. Woven into ESP-Semester I are opportunities for students to learn about the many careers available to them in the sciences' and mathematics' fields. Scientists speak about their passion for their work, their struggles along the way and their successes that make the challenges all worth while. ESP-Semester II places students in mini-job shadowing experiences within science/math faculty labs on campus, assists students in becoming aware of summer internship opportunities, supports the writing of beginning resumes and provides students with short community-based mini-internships with local science or math career professionals. ESP-I meets 1 hour weekly during semester I. ESP-II meets 1 hour monthly during semester II with additional time assigned for job shadowing and internship experiences. Students may elect to take one or two semesters of the ESP Program, however, you must take ESP-I before selecting ESP-II. More Info: Experience Success Program website |
